Remarks by U.S. Congressman Les AuCoin given before the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith at The Torch of Liberty Award Presentation to Morrie Greenstein on November 25, 1980, in Portland, Oregon. In his remarks, Congressman AuCoin expressed his concerns regarding the involvement of the New Christian Right in politics, and called for the rejection of "the substitution of rigid authoritarianism for open and free discussion in the political arena, in our schools, and in our communities." AuCoin served in the Oregon House of Representatives (1971-1975) and in the United States House of Representatives from Oregon's 1st District (1975-1993).
