Title

Statement for the debate on covert aid to Nicaragua

Description

A statement by U.S. Congressman Les AuCoin regarding the debate on covert aid to Nicaragua, given on April 23, 1985. In his statement, Congressman AuCoin expressed his concerns with the covert aid given to the Nicaraguan Contras during the Nicaraguan Revolution. He advocated for putting a stop to the financial support in order "to end the current stalemate and pursue other policies that have a realistic chance of insuring our interests. And the interests of our allies in Central America." This is one of a collection of digitized objects from the Les AuCoin Papers (MS.147) at the Pacific University Archives. AuCoin served in the Oregon House of Representatives (1971-1975) and in the United States House of Representatives from Oregon's 1st District (1975-1993).
