The Stella O.H. Lee Library Collection
This collection of more than 1,200 books focuses on Asia and the Pacific, from their art, history, and cultures to their crafts and cuisine. A glimpse into the collection is featured here, including a sampling of the stunningly illustrated books on jade, a highlight of the collection. Dr. Choy writes that at his Aunt Stella’s encouragement, “books opened whole new worlds for me.” This extensive collection offers the same opportunity to Pacific students today.
In addition to the library books, the Stell O.H. Lee collection includes several groupings of tourist postcards, stamps, and brochures gifted to the University Archives. The materials document Dr. Choy's many travels across Southeast Asia, Europe, and the United States.
The collection was initiated by Dr. Choy's grandmother who saved postcards from Korea. While he admits not initially having a large interest in these items, his perspective changed when he began traveling without a camera and purchased postcards, stamps, and brochures as a way to document his adventures.
