1926 Freshman Bonfire

Title

1926 Freshman Bonfire

Description

A photograph of the Pacific University freshman bonfire in October, 1926. Under the leadership of William Ladd and Marcus Swan, the freshmen built a large tower. Wood was collected from as far away as Hillsboro and McMinnville. It was a tradition for the Freshmen students to build a large tower of wood which would be lit in a large bonfire, usually in conjunction with a football game. The freshmen would have to guard their tower from neighboring university students, mainly Linfield College, who would try to set it on fire early. This photograph appears in an album that was compiled by Edith Hansen McGill, a 1930 Pacific University graduate.
