A photograph of a group of Pacific University students from the debate team. This photograph appeared in the March 2nd, 1909 edition of the Pacific University student newspaper, The Index. According to the The Index, the three men attended a tryout for the debate team held on January 8th, 1909. The group competed in a triangular debate against Willamette University and Whitman College on February 26th, 1909. They took the negative position on the question regarding the Des Moines plan. This team, as well as the other Pacific University team debating for the affirmative position, won the championship against Willamette University and Whitman College. The members identified are Hermon Witham '09, Haskell Ferrin '10 and Gordon Brown '10. This photograph appears in a scrapbook compiled by Frances B. Clapp, a 1909 Pacific University graduate.
