Elbridge [?] Co. March 22/52

My dear friend & bro Lyman,

A long time has passed away since we have seen each other, [?] to [?], and yet through through the Honor Missionary I am somewhat informed of your wanderings, your trials, your hopes and joys. My memory you back to the days of college life [and?] brings fresh to mind the friends these acquired-- among whom, may I not remember yourself! How often we have walked together & talked & prayed even. On our first acquaintance, I was without God in the world-- but [over?] we bid adiu to our Alma Matter-- I was made a recipient of that Salvation, which you are now preaching on the other side of the Western Continent. Three of our classmates-- Safe, Strong, & Porter , & two of the professors (Lesell quite lately) have gone to their [?]. Our college friends are scattered all over the Union. You are probably the farthest from home. Some 2 weeks since I learned that [Euther?] was preaching on probation in Quay PA. where I was 2 years teaching previous to coming here. Yesterday I learned that the church after listening to him 3 months, concluded not to settle him. He was much disappointing.

I have learned by the H. Missionary that you & family have been very sick-- yourself especially. You are now well I hope & about your Father's business. May God bless your labors abundantly.

After returning from Ga. where I taught 2 years I entered a law office in Auburn where I studied 2 years and more & then returned to teaching, which I have adopted as my profession for life. This profession affords me a good living & a wide field for usefulness. I am in my 2nd year in Elbridge, & doing pretty well. But I have a strong inclination to go to California or Oregon & offer my services-- and perhaps in a couple of years you may hear from me in California or see me in Oregon-- most probably the former. I am married & have one child-- my wife is an experienced teacher, and is now engaged in teaching music and piano. French & German. I was in Auburn last week-- Mr. Nelson has the 1st church-- the 2nd church is vacant-- Dr. Lathrop having left Dr. Hickock is expected to leave for [Union?] College during the year. Prof. Smith has gone to N.J. The seminary is quite flourishing. I doubt whether you will ever get this letter-- if you do-- answer it, and tell me how much of a family you have, how you are & all the news. I should be very happy to hear from you and my best respects to your Lady--and my good wishes & prayers to yourself.

Ever Yours, John H. Kellorn
