Grade school classroom
Title
Grade school classroom
Description
A classroom where children are playing and participating in arts and crafts projects, probably in Washington County, Oregon. A note from an area resident states: "This might be Banks Grade School. One of the teachers (2nd from right) appears to be my mother-in-law Charleen Gutmann, who taught 1st grade there for one year in the 1952-53 school year." Most of the children gather around two low tables, and the group on the right is sorting through leaves. Several women are assisting the students, while three or four boys play on the floor with blocks and trucks. One young girl clutches a doll as she observes the other children at the table near her.
