'General orders, no. 100' : regarding detailing of army officers to serve as professors

Title

'General orders, no. 100' : regarding detailing of army officers to serve as professors

Description

An extract of a document issued by the Adjutant General of the the United States Army titled 'General orders, no. 100,' dated November 21, 1879. The orders relate to the detailing of army officers as superintendents or professors of military science. A section noting that these assignments would be limited to a period of three years is underlined. These orders were probably supplied to the Trustees of Pacific University in order to explain why the Army was withdrawing the services of Captain Wilkinson. Wilkinson had served both as a military science professor at Pacific and as the superintendent of the Forest Grove Indian Training School beginning in 1879, but was withdrawn from that service in 1882.
