Unidentified woman photographer taking picture of unidentified women and children
Title
Unidentified woman photographer taking picture of unidentified women and children
Description
Sepia-toned image on red cardboard of a woman with a camera directed at two women and several children standing on a boardwalk in front of a wooden house. The photographer is wearing a long skirt with a slight bustle back and a striped, long-sleeved shirt. A scarf is wrapped around her head, and she appears to be sliding a negative either into or out of a camera set on a tripod. On the boardwalk, two women stand with five children. The woman to the image left is wearing a heavy cap and a hat and the woman to the right is wearing a dark dress and holds the smallest child in her arms. All the children are in skirts and coats. Two wear hats, and three wear bonnets. The house is wooden, cross-gabled, and the street is dirt. Museum records do not identify the women or the location, but this image is part of the Herbert E. McMullen bequest. McMullen was a local photographer who also collected other images of daily life, people, and locations in Washington County and northwest Oregon.
