Portrait of George Atkinson

Description

Portrait of George Atkinson, one of the founders of Pacific University. He was a missionary from New England who traveled to Oregon Territory and worked to establish educational systems in the area. One of his projects was the creation of Tualatin Academy and Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. This image is undated, but based on his appearance and the carte-de-visite format of the photograph, it was likely created circa the 1860s.
