AuCoin family on 1974 election night

Starting in 1970, AuCoin ran for public office a total of twelve times: twice for the Oregon House of Representatives, nine times for the US House of Representatives, and once for the US Senate. Each campaign presented its own set of challenges, and four campaigns in particular stand out. In 1970 AuCoin first ran for public office, and 1974 was his first campaign for the US House of Representatives. The 1986 campaign was a particularly expensive race against Republican challenger Tony Meeker. Finally, in 1992 AuCoin ran for the US Senate, facing Harry Lonsdale in a contentious primary before running against Bob Packwood. Bob Packwood ultimately won the Senate seat, marking AuCoin’s last campaign for public office.
